Am I a copy cat? Nah. It's been a long time coming. It takes everything I have to come up with something once a month and when I post about coffee and carrots, I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel.

I have decided that anything I have to say or show is pretty much knitting related and is shown on Ravelry.

Flooded with Talent

If you haven't taken a peek at the new booklet Made in Brooklyn by Jared Flood, you really should. I got addicted to tweedy yarns from reading his blog. My copy arrived earlier this week and there are so many things in there that are so nice and practical! The yarns used are from Classic Elite and some of them are quite pricey. But I've found some fairly inexpensive substitutes at Knit Picks that would work wonderfully. Some time when I feel like swatching I'll grab some of my swatching yarn I have stashed away and give it a whirl.

At lunch today I was sniffing around Amazon and found that Jared will be photographing a knitting book due out next year. Holy cow. I can't wait!!

Not only is this guy a talented knitter and designer, his photography is so beautiful. It's eye candy!

I came home from work today to find this..... Merino wool roving groomed. We have 3 cats but only one is obsessed with grooming everything. Hmmmm I wonder who it was??

The knitting has been progressing, but I must admit that I need to get some projects finished and Christmas knitting started. (Apology to Lorraine for using the "C" word.)

I had Ice Fantasia just about finished when I discovered that I zigged when I should have zagged. I was consistently making the same mistake which made it look rather odd. So - I frogged it back and started the last chart over again. I have three repeats to go and have just about finished the first repeat. Funny how great things look when you follow the instructions!

I am finishing up spinning of some laceweight and I can't wait to get it done! Because I'm going to start spinning Ernie. Ernie is a luscious latte brown fleece I traded with Bev. Okay Bev- I know you told me what kind of fleece it is but I didn't write it down and I can't remember. Can you leave a comment and remind me? But - I have your address finally saved! One thing at a time!

As you might remember, I bought a new wheel in February, a Schacht. Living in a very small place does not allow the luxury of holding on to my first wheel, an Ashford Traditional. I didn't think I would be that sentimental about selling it, but I was. I finally put it up for sale on one of the Yahoo spinning groups and I got a buyer! I was stunned to find out the buyer works where I do!! The hand-over should happen some time this week and I am thrilled to know that it's going to a good home and a beginning spinner.

Much Tudoring Going On

I'm still here. I've been busy knitting and spinning while catching up on The Tudors. I just finished with Season 3 today only to find out there is one last season and then that's it.

I'm working on the Ice Fantasia shawl by Anne Hanson. I have about two repeats to go and then the edging before it's finished. It's a really simple shawl and the yarn is nice (Fearless Fibers), although I think I prefer Kim's laceweight. It turns out I bought the exact yarn in the exact color as the photo and in the pattern.

I need to finish my son's cardigan I started last year and the last sleeve of Luskentyre. I have some Christmas knitting to do and then the Northern America Dale Knit Along after the holidays. OMG. I guess there isn't much time left in this year... something like 4 months. Seriously?

Work has been kicking my patootie, thus another reason for non-blogging. I come home cranky and stressed out and knitting soothes the savage beast in me. I will update soon with photos.

Something About Pink

Yesterday I turned another year older. The older I get the less I want to even think about birthdays. However, I did celebrate in style thanks to family, friends, and co-workers.

Hubby gave me the Heirloom Knitting book by Sharon Miller. How it came to be that I never had that book is a mystery, but now the mystery is solved.

My buddy, Lorraine, sent me the most magical box ever. It was filled with an assortment of nummies, humor, and of course yarn. It wouldn't be a birthday box without MAC cosmetics and Lorraine did not disappoint. The nail polish was used yesterday when I went for a pedicure the name of it and thus the title of this post is "Something About Pink". It looks great but I'll won't punish my readers with a photo of my feet.

There was some yarn and a pattern from Oceanwind Knits. I don't have the yarn and pattern here at work but trust me - the yarn was pink. :-)

There were several boxes of Smarties for Mr. K and I'm sure they will come in quite handy for finals week this week. Lorraine is just thoughtful that way, yanno.

Of course, no birthday is complete without the card. I got quite a few, but I'll share my favorite two. The first one is from Lorraine:

Last night we went out for sushi. Before we left, I got these delivered - a surprise from my Mom and my sister who live in Virginia. Needless to say, they didn't last long.

For the Love of Bacon

While I respect those who make a choice to not eat meat, I am a carnivore. I don't need meat at every meal and sometimes I go a day without eating meat. However, to swear off meat forever is something I cannot do. The tastiest of all tasties is bacon. Bacon is the reason I cannot be a vegetarian, but I don't know if I could ever go this far....

Home Again

I've decided I'm tired of giving Typepad my money every month. I just couldn't see spending money every month when I hardly used it. Unfortunately Typepad made it nearly impossible to move my blog with me, so I guess it's starting over. Starting over isn't that bad. Also, the Typepad website was inaccessible at work and there have been many times I felt like blogging at lunch. Maybe I'll be a more frequent blogger now.

I have been working on the Bee Fields shawl by Anne Hanson and here it is! I used Kim's laceweight in Tupelo Honey.

I have also started another shawl of Anne's, Whispering Pines. This one is also done in Kim's laceweight but this colorway is Scarlett Devil. I don't see it on her site any longer, but it's a beautiful true red. Of course, red is a difficult color to photograph, but here is my attempt.

Anyway, this is a quickie post from me. Happy Memorial Day!!
